The M1 is a massive improvement from the previous mac mini's, sure, but its 4 usb ports (2 A's and 2 C's), soldered in RAM and Storage, and non-existent GPU (I know, the M1 chip is a pretend GPU but still sucks), makes it a pathetic work station. Not the answer you're looking for I know, but Apple has always been terrible with multiple screen support.Īs a message to potential buyers out there, if you're looking for a decent work station with multiple monitors, then don't buy a mac. We haven't tried hooking up a third screen via usb-c yet though, but we have a spare 32" 1080p we might test out. She has her main 32" screen (hdmi), her 16" drawing tablet (usb-c), and her 12.9" ipad pro (wireless). My girlfriend is able to get 3 screens with her M1 mac mini and save a usb-C port in the process. Late to the party, but also remember that if you have an ipad that has ipad-OS 13 or later then you can use side car to wirelessly turn it into an additional screen. (I already have USB-C to HDMI cables, and various USB-C hubs) I am posting here to see what other people's experiences have been. He maintained his stance even when I mentioned the existence of the above linked article. I called customer support and the dude I was assigned said "Mac Minis are designed to support only one monitor, but you can use a maximum of two. I have tried different cables and converters with no success. So far, it works fine with two displays but it does not recognize the third display whenever I plug it. The key excerpt from the article is, "You can connect one 5K display using a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) port, or up to three 4K displays using two Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports and the HDMI 2.0 port." I bought an M1 Mac Mini last week (8GB RAM, 250GB SSD) because I saw online that it could run 3 4k displays. ![]()
